BA (hons), Dip. Arch., RIBA
During Covid-19, I slowed down my Architectural based career to a standstill and resigned from ARB but kept my RIBA status as 'Retired'.
It was a long and happy career, from designing and supervising a huge spectrum of projects from new and remodelled housing and barn conversions, to new and remodelled schools, hospital wards, banks and building societies, pubs and restaurants, as well as commercial and industrial projects. The odd public toilet and church library were among the more unusual projects, but on the whole it was a journeyman career - reliable but not outstanding.
Having fallen out of love with producing architecture, my last 25 working years were devoted to public sector procurement, with an interest in MMC, OffSite, Modular and Volumetric Building. I developed an strange interest in construction and procurement legislation and regulation and became the unofficial office proof reader, ending up being the Head of Anything that Needed Doing.
Although not Architectural, in my spare time, I developed an interest in Amateur Musical Dramatics, playing most of the traditional old person characters, and Ceilidh Music, picking up on my pre-University fiddle playing. I thoroughly enjoyed performing in both with my Daughter and Son, who have passed on the gene to their offspring.
Last year, I delayed my decision to close this web site down and will be carrying on with my posts. You can also visit my Wordpress site timjoakley.com for the odd post.
